David is a 2013 Tamil crime thriller film directed by Bejoy Nambiar, starring Vikram and Jiiva in the title roles, along with Tabu, Lara Dutta, Isha Sharvani and Nassar. The film revolves around the lives of two different men named David, who are about to take a step that will change their lives forever. The film was also made in Hindi with some changes in the cast and plot.
Plot
The film follows two parallel stories set in different time periods and locations.

In 2010, David (Vikram) is a Goan fisherman who falls in love with his best friend's deaf and mute fiancée Roma (Isha Sharvani). He seeks advice from his father's ghost (Saurabh Shukla), who possesses random people and forces them to have a drink, and Frenny (Tabu), a friend of his mother. He faces a dilemma when he has to choose between his loyalty to his friend and his love for Roma.
In 1999, David (Jiiva) is a Mumbai-based guitarist who dreams of becoming a professional musician. His father Noel (Nassar) is a Protestant priest who does charity work for the poor. A Hindu extremist politician, Malati Tai (Rohini Hattangadi), accuses Noel of converting Hindus to Christianity and attacks his colony with the help of goons. David tries to find out the truth behind the allegations and seeks revenge for his father's humiliation.
The film cuts back and forth between the two stories, showing how the two Davids face their respective challenges and make their decisions.

Critical Reception
The film received mixed reviews from critics. The Times of India gave the film 2 out of 5 stars and wrote, "The movie might be about love, making crucial decisions and the situations that bring people together, but David doesnt conjure up enough magic to inspire us!"
The Hindu praised the performances of the lead actors and the cinematography, but criticized the screenplay and the editing. The reviewer wrote, "The problem with David is that its too ambitious for its own good. It tries to pack in too much romance, action, drama, comedy but ends up being neither here nor there."
Sify.com gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and called it "a well-made entertainer". The reviewer wrote, "Bejoy Nambiar has made a stylish film with some stunning visuals and terrific music. The film works largely due to its unconventional presentation and smart editing."
